Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone

The Complete Story of Harry Potter

The Boy Who Lived

Harry James Potter is born to Lily and James Potter, a wizarding couple who are part of the resistance against the dark wizard Lord Voldemort. When Voldemort comes to kill Harry due to a prophecy, he murders Harry's parents. However, when he tries to kill the infant Harry, the killing curse (Avada Kedavra) backfires due to his mother's sacrificial protection. Voldemort loses his body and power. Harry is left with a lightning-shaped scar and becomes known as "The Boy Who Lived."

He is raised by his abusive Muggle (non-magical) relatives, the Dursleys, unaware of his magical heritage.

Year One: The Philosopher's (Sorcerer's) Stone

On his 11th birthday, Harry receives a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hagrid, the Keeper of Keys, arrives to inform him of his magical identity. At Hogwarts, Harry befriends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. He is sorted into Gryffindor house.

Harry learns about the Philosopher's Stone, which grants immortality. He suspects that Professor Snape is trying to steal it. Eventually, he finds that it is actually Professor Quirrell who is helping Voldemort. Harry stops him and prevents Voldemort from getting the Stone.

Year Two: The Chamber of Secrets

During his second year, mysterious attacks petrify students. The message "The Chamber of Secrets has been opened" appears. Harry discovers he can speak Parseltongue (snake language), which causes suspicion. Eventually, he learns that the Chamber is real, created by Salazar Slytherin. It houses a basilisk.

He finds that Tom Riddle (Voldemort’s teenage self) manipulated events through a diary. Harry kills the basilisk and destroys the diary, saving Ginny Weasley.

Year Three: The Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry learns that Sirius Black, a prisoner who betrayed his parents, has escaped Azkaban. Dementors patrol the school. Eventually, Harry learns that Sirius is his godfather and was framed by Peter Pettigrew.

Sirius and Harry bond, but Sirius must flee due to lack of proof. Harry also learns more about his parents and gains a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Lupin, who is a werewolf and friend of Sirius and James.

Year Four: The Goblet of Fire

Hogwarts hosts the Triwizard Tournament. Though underage, Harry is mysteriously entered and forced to compete. He faces dragons, underwater trials, and a magical maze.

In the final task, he is transported to a graveyard where Voldemort is reborn using Harry’s blood. Cedric Diggory is killed. Harry escapes, warning the wizarding world of Voldemort's return.

Year Five: The Order of the Phoenix

The Ministry of Magic denies Voldemort's return. Harry and Dumbledore face a smear campaign. Dolores Umbridge is installed at Hogwarts and imposes authoritarian rules.

Harry forms Dumbledore’s Army to teach students defense. He has visions linked to Voldemort and is lured into a trap. At the Department of Mysteries, he and his friends fight Death Eaters. Sirius dies. Dumbledore confirms the prophecy: Harry must be the one to defeat Voldemort.

Year Six: The Half-Blood Prince

Harry learns more about Voldemort’s past and Horcruxes—objects containing pieces of his soul. Dumbledore and Harry retrieve a fake Horcrux from a hidden cave.

Draco Malfoy is tasked with killing Dumbledore but fails. Snape kills Dumbledore instead, due to an unbreakable vow he made to Draco’s mother. Harry is devastated but committed to finishing the mission.

Year Seven: The Deathly Hallows

Harry, Ron, and Hermione go on the run to find and destroy Horcruxes. They discover the Deathly Hallows: the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone, and Invisibility Cloak. Voldemort seeks the Elder Wand.

They break into Gringotts and retrieve another Horcrux. They return to Hogwarts for the final battle. Many die, including Fred Weasley, Remus Lupin, and Nymphadora Tonks.

Snape is revealed to have protected Harry all along. His love for Lily Potter made him Dumbledore’s secret ally. Harry sacrifices himself but survives because part of Voldemort’s soul inside him is destroyed.

Voldemort is finally defeated when his own spell rebounds during a final duel with Harry.

Nineteen Years Later

Harry is married to Ginny; Ron to Hermione. Their children leave for Hogwarts. Harry’s scar hasn’t hurt since Voldemort’s fall. Peace is restored.
